Fiber Optic Assemblies

In-Package
Micro Isolators

OFP has developed the world’s smallest single-stage “Micro-Optical Isolator” that minimizes back reflection and back scattering in to and out of all light sources/lasers/chips and is small enough to integrate into practically any “gold box” package.

The isolator is a cost-effective component with excellent performance including low insertion loss, high isolation, high return loss, low PDL, and PMD. It is available in S, C and L bands. It is available in both latching and non-latching configurations, both Single Mode and Polarization Maintaining.

OFP micro-isolators can be coupled to and from the chip with cleaved fiber, lensed fiber, UHNA fiber, FVA angle polished butt-couple, etc. The pigtailed side can be terminated with all connector types.

Space Grade
FC Assemblies

new item_edited.png

OFP offers a full termination service for Space FC connectors starting from simple patchcord and pigtail assemblies.

Also, OFP manufactures hermetic fiber tail assemblies pre-terminated with Space grade FC’s for coupling by our customers to high performance active devices such as laser emitters, detectors and modulators. These typically include space quality hermetic feedthroughs for single or multiple fibers, and precision laser ablation lensed or cleaved fiber tips for optimal coupling to and from practically any chip.

Termination services are available for all SM, PM and MM fiber types, for wavelengths from 400 nm to 2,000 nm, 100% tested to the highest standards for both optical and mechanical performance.

Hermetic Fiber Tails
for Component Packaging

OFP uses its proprietary low melting point glass sealing technology to manufacture a wide range of customer specific fiber pigtail assemblies that are soldered in to "gold box" packages. They provide truly hermetic performance across all operating conditions and exceed all Telcordia reliability qualification standards.

Manufactured in the millions with 25 + years of design and production experience, these assemblies are available in many fiber channel counts, 1 - 72. They use SM, PM, MM, and specialty fibers, with fiber tip coupling customizations for high efficiency coupling to emitters, detectors, gratings, waveguides, PIC’s, etc.

More recent innovations include the incorporation of power monitoring taps and isolation optics into the hermetic fiber tail assemblies themselves.

Hermetic
Mini-Isolators

OFP has developed the world’s smallest single-stage “Micro-Optical Isolator” to minimize back reflection and back scattering in to and out of lasers, detectors, SOAs, modulators and other chips.

This “hermetic” version is specifically designed to fit into a snout/entrance of a “gold box” package within a traditional feedthrough envelope using our proprietary glass sealing technology. The isolator packaged in the Kovar Ni/Au plated tube is then easily solderable in the package wall, thus creating a fully hermetic component.

The isolator is a cost-effective component with excellent performance including low insertion loss, high isolation, high return loss, low PDL, and PMD. It is available in S, C, and L bands in both latching and non-latching configurations, as well as both Single Mode and Polarization Maintaining.

OFP micro-isolators can be terminated inside the package with a cleaved fiber, lensed fiber, UHNA fiber, FVA angle polished butt-couple assembly, etc. The other, pigtailed side is normally delivered terminated with a wide range of connector types.

Hermetic Receptacles
(TROSA/OSA)

OFP has a wide range of LC (1.25mm) compatible receptacle components that seal into a gold box package. The hermeticity to the fiber cladding is provided by OFP’s proven glass sealing technology which has been fully qualified to all telecommunication industry standards.

On the device side, the miniature SM & PM fiber tails are available with a variety of coupling arrangements for the "chip" interface, including directly lensed fiber tips, laser ablated cleaved fibers 0° -> 45° etc.

OFP’s TROSA/OSA receptacles are typically simply soldered into the package pipe/wall using Bi Sn solders.

Transceiver
FVA Assemblies

OFP designs and volume manufacturers specialty fiber assemblies for coupling to customer optical engines inside transceiver modules with data rate applications from 10Gb/s up to 800Gb/s.

OFP’s solutions are customizable and deliver high performance with ultra-low mezzanine heights. They are available in multimode or singlemode, for coupling to VCSEL and detector arrays, directly aligned to a silicon waveguides, or to grating structures

Fiber counts for the assemblies typically range from 4F to 20F. They can be supplied as ‘micro harnesses’ to go inside MSA packages presenting MT/MPO connectivity. Alternatively, they can be built as strain relieved AOC (Active Optical Cable) assemblies, (3mm or 2mm OD) terminated at customised lengths with MPO.
