New Position - Development Engineer 

We are recruiting for a Development Engineer to join our growing team.

 

Our products address customer challenges related to custom optical connectivity and cable assembly solutions. These include hermetically sealed optical sub-systems, high efficiency laser and detector coupling. Applications range from traditional fiber-optic networking to industrial, nuclear, space and medical applications. We design, develop, prototype and high volume manufacture for its clients and their special applications worldwide.

 

JOB PURPOSE

 

The development of high tech precision products and processes to meet stringent customer expectations of timescales, cost and reliability.                

           

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

 

  • Development of cost effective products and supporting manufacturing processes.

  • To take the lead in complete product lifecycle, from design & development, on-time transfer of products to production, and including ongoing engineering support for production.

  • To ensure products are designed and developed for manufacturability and sustained profitability.

  • Interacting with Sales and Marketing on product definition, specifications and costing.

  • Participating in or leading design and development activities for new products with other team members.

  • Definition of the BOM’s for new products and identifying/qualifying suitable suppliers with focus on costs and reliability.

  • Process development, prototype manufacturing leveraging the skills of engineering technicians.

  • Defining and conducting initial product qualification against appropriate standards.

  • Development of process /product metrology and inspection techniques for new products.

  • Supporting product transfer to production and assisting with potential issues while in production.

  • Provide the Quality department with engineering support on RMA’s, vendor evaluation and all quality reports.

  • Attend customer and supplier liaison meetings as required.

          

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED

 

Essential:

  • Degree in Science or Engineering discipline.

  • Min 2 years process/product development experience in high tech and mid to high volume manufacturing environment.

  • Hands –on with a pragmatic approach and excellent attention to detail.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and influencing skills.

  • Good analytical skills, data analysis and presentation.

  • Sound grasp of statistical techniques.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively and efficiently.

  • Strong team player yet capable of independent and creative thinking.


Desirable:

  • Experience with fibre optic products development, manufacturing and testing.

  • Experience of reliability testing & quality control.

  • Experience of technology transfer and related support documentation.

Open Position - Engineer

JOB PURPOSE

The design and development of new products and processes to meet stringent customer expectations of timescales, cost and reliability.                

            

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Development of cost effective new products and supporting manufacturing processes for OFP’s mid to high volume manufacturing requirements

  • To be responsible for complete product lifecycles, from design & development, on- time transfer of products and services to production, and including ongoing engineering support for production

  • Design and development of products for manufacturability and sustained profitability

  • Attention to continuous improvements to deliver process time and manufacturing cost reduction 

 

KEY ACTIVITIES

  • Interacting with Sales and Marketing on product definition, specifications and costing

    • Participating in or leading design and development activities for new products with other team members

    • Definition of the BOM’s for new products and identifying/qualifying suitable suppliers with focus on costs and reliability

  • Process development, prototype manufacturing leveraging the skills of engineering technicians

  • Defining and conducting initial product qualification against appropriate standards

  • Liaising with OFP’s Manufacturing Operations team to ensure timely procurement of parts

    • Development of process /product metrology and inspection techniques for new products

    • In collaboration with Manufacturing Operations, help generate documentation of processes and associated record keeping, including product traceability

  • Supporting product transfer to production and potential issues while in production

    • Attend customer and supplier liaison meetings as required

  • Support Manufacturing Operations  on existing products and processes, including participation in 
    problem solving Task Teams

  • Provide the Quality department with Engineering support on RMA’s, vendor evaluation and all quality reports

  • Hands –on with a pragmatic approach and excellent attention to detail

  • Strong team player yet capable of independent and creative  thinking

  • Experience of technology transfer and related support documentation
