History and Overview
OFP’s core team of entrepreneurs and engineers have worked together at Haverhill since the mid-80’s, developing successive industry leading Fiber Optic technology businesses within the town.
1984: ICI Stratos opens its factory at Haverhill becoming one of the first independent UK fiber optic manufacturing companies specializing in telecom fiber assemblies and the production of Expanded Beam harsh environment connectors.
1989: On its sale to TT Group, the management team leave Stratos to begin the start-up Mikon Ltd., also in Haverhill.
1992: Mikon Ltd. is successfully sold to Methode Inc., Chicago.
2000: Methode Mikon acquires Stratos Ltd. from TT Group.
2001: Methode Inc. takes all of its fibre business companies public becoming Stratos Lightwave Inc.
2007: Stratos Lightwave Inc. is sold to Emerson Inc.
2007: The team take the Haverhill business private with a MBO – AFP Ltd is formed.
2016: AFP UK and AFP US are successfully sold to TE Connectivity.
2016: The team takes half of TE’s Haverhill business private again, with the startup OFP Ltd.
Present Day - 2022: OFP has grown to over 100 employees at Haverhill, with supporting production facilities in Shenzhen and Shanghai. The team also has two sales offices in the US.
